Real Estate for Real People

To learn more about Julie and her passion for senior care, we sat down with her to hear about her story.

Sunlight Support: How did you get started in the real estate industry?

Julie: I was working as a caregiver at the time and had always wanted to pursue a career in real estate, so I started working toward my license. Once I got my license, I started selling and buying homes right away. Unfortunately, I felt unfulfilled and missed the relationships I had as a caregiver.

I didn’t want to leave my real estate business, but I wanted to be able to work with seniors. I did some research and learned about the Seniors Real Estate Specialist Certification and found my solution. I am a real estate agent, but I am also a resource guide for anything dealing in senior care. Today, I’ve got the best job in the world.

Sunlight Support: What is the most rewarding aspect of your job?

Julie: You feel valued, like you contributed. I love learning from seniors. They are so full of knowledge, compassion and respect. It’s so rewarding that they trust me to help them make life-altering decision.

Sunlight Support: What is something that set you apart from other SRES®?

Julie: I still work as a CNA, so if I’m not working with a senior client at my real estate business, I still get to interact with them as a caregiver. I have a passion for helping seniors and making sure their transition is as easy as it can be. I never think of a client as commission; rather, I always think about how I can help and care for them.

If a client finds out they can no longer live at home, I am ready to share any resources I can to get them to the best facility or care service available. If staying at home and making modifications is their best option, I have a list of contractors I’d use in my own home. I don’t have to make a sale to be successful. If my client is satisfied with a service I recommend, then I’ve done my job.
